Learning experience 1: Primary school

I have a terrible memory and so cannot remember much from primary school. Scratching around for information I do remember doing quite a bit on the egyptians in history. Back in those days a lot of learning was via copying from the blackboard and books, but I remember also going to visit an exhibition at the local museum and completing a series of activities there. Plus we did quite a few arts based activities on the topic. It was all based on learning information for a new curriculum topic. One of the reasons I remember this more clearly is that I was actually in my mum's class at the time!

Learning experience 3: Employment

A recent skill I have learnt in my current job is how to use Articulate Storyline. I taught myself this skill through the use of online tutorials, a guide book I bought and through experimentation in producing elearning modules. There are some aspects that I learnt from asking colleagues for help but the majority was self-initiated. I was learning the skill as I had started working for an elearning company and it was to be part of my role to help build some modules. Over time this has actually become the focus of my role and I am now an instructional designer and so developing further advanced skills much through the same means and am also helping to train others up in the software.

Learning experience 2: Secondary school

I remember learning how to develop a practical skill, which was screenprinting, for my art GCSE. The goal was to produce a patterned textile based on the artist William Morris as a final piece for my exam portfolio which included a range of interior design objects such as tiles, wallpaper etc. I was learning to do this with my art teacher. I learnt the information through looking at examples of the artist's work, looking at book containing examples of the process, producing a range of design ideas, developing them, testing them as a repeat pattern and then producing small test prints. I then created the final stencils and produced the final piece.
